19 – Fickle

When I heard a knock on our front door at the ripe hour of seven in the morning, I knew that it wouldn’t be me getting out of bed to check who it was. It had been days since the big talk with Knox and Gage at the apartment, and it left me feeling more than a bit antisocial. I knew that no one at the door could possibly be there to see me.

Guilt ate at my guts ever since that impromptu wolf meeting, especially after Gage told me what it meant to have another male wolf in his space, vying for the same woman. I had no idea that it could be dangerous, and that just led to far too many more questions than I had answers to. So, I’d gone to class and gone to sleep for the past few days with not much else happening in between.

My plans for the day included, sleeping late, rolling out of bed, and carrying my ass straight to class, messy as ever, and not giving a solitary fuck about it. Instead, because of some visitor showing up at such an ungodly hour, paired with my own inability to fall back asleep after being woken up, I was left to simmer in my thoughts for a bit before I had anywhere to be.

My moment with Gage the other night, after Knox left, was something that I kept replaying in my mind repeatedly. Being in his arms felt like coming home after months of being lost, and I could still feel the faint tingle of his sweet kiss on my forehead. I’d kept my distance since then, as much as possible, while I tried to sort through my thoughts. I didn’t want to add any confusion to an already perplexing situation for him. Hell, it was almost too confusing for me to keep up with. How could I feel that strongly about a single interaction with Gage, but still find myself thinking about both Knox and Garrett? Was it just me struggling to make peace with an old lifestyle, or did my heart really want all three of them? Truth be told, it hadn’t escaped my notice that there weren’t any human men in contention for my attention. So, even if I chose one of those three, I would still have to deal with the world they lived in, and wasn’t that at the heart of the problem?

I was about to put my headphones in and listen to a podcast so that I could tune out the voices in the other room when I got a text message notification from Gage.

Gage: Hey Liz, if you’re awake, there are some people I’d like for you to meet.

Well, shit. I got up and reluctantly threw on a pair of joggers and one of the many free school shirts I’d collected over the years. When I stepped out of my room, there were three faces smiling up at me from the living room area, including Gage.
